  George C. Xiradakis
Managing Director - XRTC Business Consultants Ltd and

George Xiradakis graduated from the Nautical Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos-Athens and he holds a diploma in Commercial Operations from City of London Polytechnic and an MSc in Maritime Studies from University of Wales.

In his banking carrier (1991-1998) he served as Vice President of Credit Lyonnais Shipping Group and Head of European Shipping finance activities and as Head of Greek, Indian and Middle East Shipping. In 1999 he founded XRTC Business Consultants and since then he has been the Managing Director of the Company. XRTC acted as Commercial Representative of the French Banks Credit Lyonnais (up to 2004) and Natixis (up to 2008). Since 2009, XRTC has been working closely with the Chinese ship finance market. In 2011 XRTC signed a Financial Consultancy Agreement with China Development Bank. XRTC has won the Greek Shipping Financier of the Year by Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Award 2010.

Mr. Xiradakis is a member of the Board of Directors of Paragon Shipping Inc (NASDAQ: PRGN). He also serves as the President of the Board of Governors of the International Propeller Club of the United States –International Port of Piraeus; he is also the General Secretary of the Association of Banking and Shipping Executives of Hellenic Shipping and a Board Member of the China-Greece Friendship Association. He is also member of Marine Club of Piraeus, HELMEPA, Member of the Mediterranean Committee of China Classification Society, Greece-China Chamber and member of President’s Advisory Council of American College of Greece. Mr. Xiradakis was member of the Board of Directors of DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) from 2008 up to November 2015, also was a member of the Board of Directors of Aries Maritime Transport, which has since changed its name to NewLead Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ: NEWL). Mr. Xiradakis also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Public Real Estate Corporation and the first President of the National Center of Port Development.
  Helena Athoussaki
Head of Maritime Sustainability, PwC

Helena has over 20 years of experience in Maritime sustainability and ICT.

Presently, she heads PwC’s Maritime Sustainability Centre in Athens, a team of marine experts, engineers and analysts assisting shipping companies to ensure environmental compliance, design an effective performance monitoring system and build sustainable business operations.

She is an expert in sustainability strategy, energy performance management, highly knowledgeable on EU MRV regulation with a solid technical and operational knowledge on maritime issues which she has applied at a broad range of clients in the maritime industry.

Helena is an active speaker in a wide variety of maritime conferences and associations and she participates regularly at the IMO Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) meetings while being involved in various proposals, presentations and studies for the IMO such us the 3rd IMO GHG study.

She is a member of the expert group European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF) of European Commission on MRV shipping regulation, but also a member of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA).

Helena holds executive degrees from the Said Business School in Oxford and the London Business School (LBS) in Finance & Accounting, Hedge Funds, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, MBA from the ALBA Business school and MA from the University of Middlesex in London.

Sotiris Theofanis is the Coordinator and Authorized Representative of the DIEP GmbH– Terminal Link SAS– BELTERRA Investments Ltd Consortium, designated as the “Preferred Investor” for the Transaction of the divestiture of the 67% stake of ThPA SA.

An internationally acknowledged Ports; Freight and Maritime Transportation; and Logistics Expert and Manager. Former Expert; Head of Planning Unit; and acting Director for Ports with the Hellenic Ministry of Merchant Marine; Ex- CEO of Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (ThPA SA), Greece (1999-2002); and Ex-President and CEO of Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA) (2002 – 2004), he led the efforts of restructuring and stock listing to the Athens Stock Exchange of both ports.

Fellow and ex-Director of the Maritime Engineering and Management Program (MIEMP); and the Freight and Maritime Program (FMP) in the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA. Senior Fellow at the Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI), Israel.

He has a very strong and diversified portfolio of freight transportation and port restructuring and privatization projects worldwide.
  H.E. Geoffrey R. Pyatt,
U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic


Geoffrey R. Pyatt, a career member of the Foreign Service, class of Career Minister, was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic in September 2016. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine from 2013-2016, receiving the State Department’s Robert Frasure Memorial Award in recognition of his commitment to peace and alleviation of human suffering in eastern Ukraine.

Previously, Ambassador Pyatt was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs from 2010-2013. He was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna, Austria from 2007 to 2010. He also served at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India as Deputy Chief of Mission from 2006 to 2007 and as Political Counselor from 2002 to 2006. Ambassador Pyatt served as Economic Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong from 1999 to 2002 and as Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore, Pakistan from 1997 to 1999. Since joining the Foreign Service in 1989, he has also served on the National Security Council staff, on the staff of Deputy Secretary Strobe Talbott and at posts in Honduras and India.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he worked with The Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington-based think tank that brings together leading citizens of the Americas.

Ambassador Pyatt grew up in La Jolla, California and holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Yale and B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.
  Athena Kanellatou,
Managing Director - MACGREGOR GREECE


Athena Kanellatou studied Business Management and specialized in Economics, followed by Controlling and Internal Auditing, as well as Sales and Accounts Management.

Over the years she has attended numerous shipping, management, sales and technical education programmes along with MacGregor Academy courses and is member of relevant professional bodies.

She has, since 90’s, been working for MacGregor, holding a number of key positions in the Greek entity being CFO, Business Controller, Managing Director and Global Life Cycle Support Sales Manager.

During her long association with MacGregor Group, A. Kanellatou is actively involved in different company workgroups in Merchant Marine division and other managerial projects focusing on Greek shipping community. MacGregor is world leading provider of engineering solutions and services for handling marine cargoes and offshore loads, member of Cargotec Group stock listed in Helsinki.
  Jeff Horst
Commercial Director for Foss Maritime


Jeff Horst has been serving in the role of Commercial Director for Foss Maritime in their Seattle, Washington Headquarters since 2008. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Jeff’s father owned a trucking company for over 40 years serving the auto industry which lead to his love of transportation. Upon graduating from Western Michigan University in 1980, Jeff moved to Seattle where he worked as a freight forwarder specializing in import/export, air/ocean freight, distribution, project cargo and customs brokerage for over 22 years – raising to the rank of Vice President of Sales for 2 of the 5 largest multinationals. Jeff manages the marketing and commercial activities of Foss’s Tanker Escort and Ship Assist services in the ports of the Puget Sound, Columbia River, San Francisco Bay, El Segundo, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Honolulu and Cook Inlet, Alaska.
  Michael Lund
Deputy Secretary General, BIMCO


Michael Lund is Deputy Secretary General responsible for BIMCO’s Membership Development, offices in Asia, training and the shipping Market Analysis activities. Born in Denmark, Michael Lund graduated from Copenhagen University in 1992 with a Master of Science in Economics degree, which focused on international trade and politics. He then held a series of posts relating to political and economic issues in Danish government administrations, including participation in World Trade Organization (WTO) and EU negotiations. In 1999, Michael moved to the shipping industry, joining the Danish Shipowners’ Association. After several years working at the Association in Copenhagen, Michael moved to Brussels in 2003 where he represented shipowners by focusing on regulatory developments in the EU. He returned to the Association’s headquarters in 2007 to concentrate on Greenhouse Gases. In December 2007, Michael joined BIMCO because he relished the challenge and opportunity of working in an international shipping environment.
  Dimitris Mattheou

Possessing first class communication skills and configuration skills and being highly successful in helping defining company direction, achieving goals and optimizing business.

He is working in Arcadia Shipmanagement and Aegean Bulk since 2001 in various managerial positions.

He is a Master Mariner holding a multi-year experience onboard tankers as well as in various managerial positions in shipping companies.

Mr Mattheou is an executive Committee representative of Intercargo , Committee member of Norwegian Hull club , member of board of directors of Helmepa, board of Governors member of Propeller club ,Committee member of ALBA Graduate Business School , member of ITOSF , and Associate fellow of The Nautical Institute.

  Sotiris Raptis
Senior Policy Advisor for Environment and Safety, EcoPorts Coordinator, ESPO


Sotiris joined ESPO last year as senior policy advisor for environment and safety. He is also the coordinator of the EcoPorts network at ESPO. Previously, Sotiris worked for 2.5 years as shipping and aviation officer at the NGO Transport & Environment being responsible for the clean shipping campaign at IMO and EU level and spent 6 years at the European Parliament as MEP policy advisor on environment, transport and legal affairs. A qualified lawyer, Sotiris speaks Greek and English. He studied at the University of Thessaloniki, the University of Athens and the King’s College London Centre of European Law. Sotiris was awarded European Citizens’ Prize 2008 of the European Parliament as member of “G700” blog for promoting intergenerational justice.
  Yoong Hui Chia,

Profile Hugo du Mez
Hugo du Mez (1958, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) has a BA in information sciences from the University of Applied Sciences in The Hague. After working for several years at the local municipal power company, he joined the Port of Rotterdam Authority in 1986.

Hugo has worked at the Port Authority in several management functions. In this time he was responsible for market research, strategic planning, benchmarking and commodity flow forecasts.

Since August 2014 Hugo has the function of Advisor on Energy and Dry Bulk within the Business Analysis & Intelligence department of the Rotterdam Port Authority.

The port
The port of Rotterdam’s annual throughput amounts to some 460 million tonnes. This makes the port of Rotterdam the largest port in Europe. The port area includes 12,500 ha (land and water, of which 6,000 ha is business sites). The total length of the port area is more than 40 km. Approximately 30,000 seagoing vessels and 110,000 inland vessels visit the port of Rotterdam every year.

Captain Gabriel Haldezos, has graduated from National Merchant Marine Academy of Syros in 1968 and attended a shipping course in UK 1975-6.

Served, as Deck Officer and Master of ocean going merchant ships, till 1978.
Worked, as ship operator, in Thenamaris Ships’ Management Inc 1979-1990.
Worked, as Operations & Quality Manager, in Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Ltd (split away part of Thenamaris) 1991-2011

From 2012 till present, while maintaining contact with the shipping industry, is mostly engaged, as President of a civil non-profit company, Plomari Forum, aiming the tourism promotion & development of Plomari area and Lesvos in general.
  Kostis Achladitis,

Almost 40 years in shipping industry. Since 1977 working in Golden Union Shipping Group.

In 1984 was appointed as Purchasing Manager. In 1989 was appointed to set up and develop Golden Cargo as Managing Director.

Born and raised in Chios. Graduate the City of London Polytechnic (London University). Holds a BSc in Maritime Economics and MSc in Logistics
  Mary Pothitos,
Marine Insurance and Claims Handling Consultant, Paralegal Maritime Services


Finished school at Concord College International, UK and obtained “A” levels in Economics, History, British and American Politics. After graduating from the law school of Wolverhampton University UK, attended the Lloyd’s Academy course in Cambridge, Anatomy of Shipping, followed by two years practical work in the City of London. Joint the family business of shipowning and ship-management in Greece, in 1989 as Legal and Insurance Director until 2014. Actively involved in the management and operation of the fleet.

In 2014 was appointed Advisor on International Relations at the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association and Director of the Shortsea Promotion Centre (SPC) – Greece, and served a two year term.

From this post, assisted in the formation of the legal entity of the European Shortsea Network (ESN) and from January till December 2016, was Member of the Board, of ESN, representing the East- Mediterranean interests.

In the same year, 2016 started PARALEGAL MARITIME SERVICES, offering professional assistance for efficient and cost effective management of claims handling.

  Vassilis Korkidis,

Vassilis Korkidis was born in Piraeus. He has been serving as President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2013 and has been elected 3 times President of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, since 2009. Among others, he is Vice-President of the European Association of SMEs (UEAPME), National Member in the Board of EuroCommerce, Member of the Board of Administration of Enterprise Greece, President of the Mediterranean Committee for Industry of ASCAME and Member of the Board of the Regulatory Authority for Ports. Also, he was member in Piraeus Port Authority Board.

He graduated from Southampton University, with BSc (Honours) in Naval Architecture and Ship Science and followed postgraduate studies with Master’s degrees in Maritime Law (LL.M.) and International Commerce & Sea Transport (M.Sc.). In 2016 the Technical University of Piraeus, awarded him with the Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration. He is the owner of two commercial and marine enterprises. He expands the family business established in 1961 and in 1986 sets up "Spyros Korkidis Bros”, a ships’ supplying company in Marine Electric and Electronics equipment, as well as "K-Group Shipping Inc" in 1990. Since 2008, he is President and Managing Director of the commercial and maritime company "Korkidis S.V.E. SA.”
  Prof. Fani Sakellariadou,
Head of Department of Maritime Studies - UNIVERSITY OF PIRAEUS


Professor in Geochemical Oceanography and Head of the Maritime Studies Department of the University of Piraeus, Director of the Laboratory of Geochemical Oceanography.

She earned her BSC in Chemistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and her PhD in Applied Marine Geochemistry from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, University of London. She holds an MPhil in Oceanography from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a DIC in organic synthesis from Imperial College, University of London.

She has worked as geochemist expert/consultant in Hydrex and as oceanographer at the Hellenic Centre of Marine Sciences. For 14 years she served as national expert on climate change issues in the EU, DG XI.

She has been a member of various scientific committees, including The Committee on Biophysico-Chemical Processes in Environmental Systems of IUPAC. She is reviewer in scientific journals and evaluator of research proposals. For many years, she was a member of the Steering Committee of the Postgraduate Programme in Shipping of the University of Piraeus. She was Board Member of the Union of Greek Oceanographers as well as Board member of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and Cultural Heritage. She has participated in many scientific conferences committees.

Fani Sakellariadou is the author of more than 150 scientific papers, articles, monographs and 2 books covering Geochemical studies of marine sediments and more specifically about heavy metals, dissolved organic carbon, humic substances, Pollutant studies in harbor sediments, Integrated coastal zone management, Environmental impacts of shipping and Blue growth.

She loves the sea and she likes visual arts. She is mother of two children.
  Panagiotis Kouroumplis,
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy


Born in Aetoloakarnania in 1951, Panagiotis Kouroumplis holds a Law degree and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Athens.

At age 10 he lost his eyesight from the explosion of a German hand-grenade, a remnant of WW II. After attending the School for the Blind in Athens, he became a pioneer of the Greek disability rights movement and was the first blind person to be elected member of the Hellenic Parliament, serving with PASOK (1996-2004, 2009-2011) and with SYRIZA (2012 - to date).

He has previously held office as General Secretary for Welfare in the Ministry of Health, Minister of Health, and Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction. Since November 2016 he holds the position of Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.

Having received several awards for his achievements both in Greece and abroad, Panagiotis Kouroumplis often cites his own disability to encourage the young to become masters of their own fate. He is married with two children.
